After catching the eye with their exciting football in the group stage, Colombia will look to carry that momentum into the knockout rounds when they face Ghana in the Round of 32 at Kansas City Stadium.

Colombia topped a group that included one of the tournament favourites, Portugal, while Ghana progressed as one of the best third-placed teams and will be aiming for their first World Cup knockout victory.

Head-to-head Record: The R32 clash between Colombia and Ghana will be the first ever meeting between the sides.

Colombia Preview

Colombia's last World Cup campaign ended in the Round of 16 in 2018, and this time they look determined to go much further. They have been one of the standout teams of the group stage, combining relentless pressing with adventurous attacking football.

Wins over Uzbekistan (3-1) and DR Congo secured early qualification before they capped off the group phase with an outstanding goalless draw against Portugal. Despite dominating possession, outshooting the Portuguese 24-13 and forcing Diogo Costa into six saves, Colombia had to settle for a point.

Their performances have underlined Néstor Lorenzo's attacking philosophy, but finishing remains a concern. Colombia have attempted nearly 60 shots—among the highest totals in the tournament—yet have converted only four goals, with a conversion rate of just 6.78%.

Another telling statistic is that half of those goals have come from right-back Daniel Muñoz, highlighting the need for their forwards to be more clinical as the knockout stage begins.

Key Players

James Rodríguez, Colombia's captain and former 2014 World Cup star, will be the key man on the big stage.

After a quiet start to the tournament, he caught the eye against Portugal by creating five chances and completing a game-high 43 passes in the final third, while also testing the goalkeeper with three shots on target. Luis Díaz, with a goal and an assist, and Daniel Muñoz have also been important contributors.

Team News

Colombia head into the knockout stage with a fully fit squad, giving Néstor Lorenzo no injury or suspension concerns ahead of the clash.

Colombia Probable Starting Lineup

Vargas (GK); Munoz, Lucumi, Sanchez, Mojica, Puerta, Lerma, Arias, Rodriguez, Suarez, Diaz

Ghana Preview

Ghana have taken a very different route to the knockout stage, relying on defensive discipline rather than attacking flair. Drawn alongside higher-ranked England, Croatia and Panama, the Black Stars knew resilience would be their greatest weapon.

They delivered exactly that, edging Panama with a dramatic stoppage-time winner before producing a heroic goalless draw against England despite seeing just 21% possession and facing 19 shots. A narrow defeat to Croatia in their final game did little to diminish an impressive qualification campaign.

Expect Ghana to adopt the same deep, compact approach against Colombia. They attempted the fewest shots (15) in the group stage and ranked among the lowest for efforts on target (4), underlining their dependence on counterattacks.

The biggest question is whether Jordan Ayew can provide enough threat on the break, or if Carlos Queiroz opts for the more dynamic Brandon Thomas-Asante to add greater attacking impetus.

Key Players

If Ghana are to progress without relying on penalties, they will need to find a goal at some point. That puts the spotlight on Manchester City's winger Antoine Semenyo, who has had a quiet tournament so far and is yet to register a shot on target.

Ghana will also need more from Jordan Ayew and Brandon Thomas-Asante if they are to threaten Colombia.

Team News

Ghana have a few fitness concerns ahead of the knockout stage. Antoine Semenyo is recovering from an injury but is expected to be available, while goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi remains doubtful, meaning Benjamin Asare is likely to continue between the posts.

Ghana Probable Starting Lineup

Asare (GK); Senaya, Adjetey, Luckassen, Mensah, Sulemana, Partey, Owusu, Sibo, Semenyo, Ayew

Both teams know exactly what to expect from this contest. Ghana are likely to sit deep and defend in numbers, while Colombia will dominate possession and patiently search for a breakthrough. Néstor Lorenzo's side already overcame a similar challenge against DR Congo in the group stage, a result that should give them confidence heading into this tie.

Ghana's biggest asset is the experience of Carlos Queiroz, whose deep tactical knowledge and familiarity with Colombian football could help make life difficult for Las Cafeteras. Even so, this feels like Colombia's game to lose. Expect a tight, tactical affair with goals likely to be at a premium.

Colombia are favorites to win the match according to bookmakers, with one of the sites backing them to win at odds of 1.50 to Ghana’s 7.50 and 4.00 for a draw.

Colombia to win (1-0).
