Crystal Palace welcome Newcastle to Selhurst Park for what looks like a very close mid-table battle. Both managers are dealing with injury piles and the fatigue of European football, so neither side can afford to switch off. It should be a physical, hard-fought game as both teams try to find some late-season momentum.

Current Standings:  Crystal Palace are 14th with 39 points, while Newcastle are 12th with 42. Only three points separate them heading into this kickoff.

Head-To-Head Stats: Newcastle have historically dominated this fixture, winning 33 of their 58 meetings compared to just 13 wins for Palace and 12 draws.

Crystal Palace Preview

Crystal Palace come into this one with a modest record, scoring 33 goals across 30 matches, about 1.10 per game. They’ve been reasonably tight at the back too, conceding 35 goals at a rate of 1.17 per match.

Looking at their last five games in all competitions, the Eagles have scored six and let in only four, which suggests Oliver Glasner has them looking more cohesive, even if they aren't exactly blowing teams away. Recent results, a win over AEK Larnaca and a draw with Leeds, show a team that are more about grinding out results than total dominance.

Injury-wise, things are a bit thin. Adam Wharton and Dean Henderson are both doubts, while Edward Nketiah is out until mid-April. With Cheick Doucouré ruled out until late April, the Palace midfield looks quite stretched heading into a busy period.

Crystal Palace (3-4-3): W. Benítez; J. Canvot, M. Lacroix, C. Richards; T. Mitchell, D. Kamada, A. Wharton, B. Johnson; E. Guessand, J.S. Larsen, I. Sarr.

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle have been one of the more productive sides in the bottom half, netting 44 goals in 31 games for an average of 1.42 per match. However, their defence is still a major worry, having conceded 45 goals at a rate of 1.45 per game.

Their recent form across all competitions is a bit of a rollercoaster, as they have scored six in their last five but shipped a massive 13 goals, including that heavy 7-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League.

In the league, it’s been hit or miss for Eddie Howe’s men lately, with wins over Chelsea and Man Utd countered by a loss to Sunderland. Anthony Gordon remains their biggest threat with six goals and two assists, and he’ll need to step up alongside Harvey Barnes.

The injury list at St James' Park is a real headache. Captain and midfield engine Bruno Guimarães is out with a muscle injury until mid-April. Sven Schär is also sidelined with an ankle issue, and Emil Krafth is out until June. With Lewis Miley also doubtful, the Magpies' midfield is looking very uncertain for the trip south.

Newcastle United (4-3-3): A. Ramsdale; K. Trippier, S. Botman, D. Burn, L. Hall; J. Ramsey, Joelinton, N. Woltemade; A. Elanga, A. Gordon, H. Barnes.

While Palace are tough at home, Newcastle’s scoring record and Palace’s growing injury list give the Magpies a slight advantage. Newcastle have scored in five straight away games, and that’s hard to bet against.
