After suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata derby, East Bengal responded in emphatic fashion by thrashing CISF Protectors 8-0 to register Antonio López Habas' first victory in charge. Habas' changes paid immediate dividends, with P.V. Vishnu and Dani Ramírez making a huge impact after being introduced to the starting XI. 

Vishnu stole the show with a superb hat-trick, while Ramirez created some chances along with an assist and later substitute Jesin T.K. added a late brace to cap off a memorable evening. The result equalled the biggest winning margin in Durand Cup history and significantly boosted East Bengal's hopes of advancing as one of the tournament's best second-placed teams, thanks to their superior goal difference.

South United FC Preview

South United's celebrations after securing their maiden Durand Cup victory were short-lived as Mohun Bagan handed them a crushing 8-0 defeat in their second outing. 

The Bengaluru side struggled to cope with Mohun Bagan's relentless attack, which produced 28 shots, 12 of them on target. Goalkeeper Sunil Singh made several fine saves to prevent an even heavier scoreline, but the contest was effectively over after the Mariners raced to a four-goal lead inside the opening 25 minutes.

South United offered little going forward, managing just three attempts, with Makakmayum Daniyal's powerful strike in first-half that forced an excellent save from Vishal Kaith their only real moment of promise. The defeat leaves them third in Group A on three points, but their heavily damaged goal difference has all but ended their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

The Torchbearers possess the quality to control possession, dictate the tempo, and create enough chances to put the game beyond South United's reach. 

For the Bengaluru side, surviving the opening half-hour will be crucial, but they appear short of the quality needed to trouble an in-form East Bengal outfit. We expect the Torchbearers to continue their momentum with another comfortable victory.
