In the first double-header of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season, FC Goa will lock-horns with the newbies Inter Kashi. For the Goans, who had a good enough season last time but failed short in the final stages of the tournament, it will be about pushing till the end and claim the elusive ISL title for the first time.

For Kashi, it will be about making an impression and finish their season in a respectable manner. The kickoff is set for a 7:30 PM start at the Fatorda Stadium.

Head-to-head Record: This will be their first-ever meeting in the ISL. However, the sides are not strangers as they crossed paths in the recently concluded Super Cup, where FC Goa came out on top.

FC Goa Preview

FC Goa have stacked up silverware in recent seasons, yet the ISL crown still slips through their fingers after two final heartbreaks.

In the meantime, the Gaurs  begin this campaign on a high, though, having defended their Super Cup title with a dramatic 6–5 shootout win over East Bengal. That triumph also sealed their place in the AFC Champions League Two group stage, adding extra sheen — and confidence — to their start.

However, like many sides this season, FC Goa have been hit by foreign exits and will start the league with just two overseas players — Dejan Drazic and Pol Moreno — after losing Javier Siverio, Iker Guarrotxena, David Timor, Sadiku and Borja Herrera. The upside? Their Indian core remains intact, bolstered by smart additions in Ishan Pandita and Daniel Lalhimpuia to strengthen the attack.

Key Player

With three of last season’s top scorers gone, much of the attacking burden now falls on Dejan Drazic, who impressed in both the Super Cup and the AFC Champions League Two.

At the other end, keep an eye on Hrithik Tiwari, the young goalkeeper who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last year, keeping seven clean sheets and emerging as a key figure between the posts.

FC Goa Probable XI - Hrithik Tiwari (GK);  Boris Singh, Sandesh Jhingan, Pol Moreno, Aakash Sangwan, Sahil Tavora, Harsh Patre, Mohammad Yasir, Dejan Drazic, Brison Fernandes, Ishan Pandita.

Inter Kashi Preview

Inter Kashi’s road to the ISL has been anything but smooth, with off-field drama surrounding their I-League triumph dominating the headlines months ago, but the noise is now behind them as they step in as the league’s newest side with a point to prove.

While the club may be new to this stage, the man on the touchline certainly isn’t. Antonio Lopez Habas, the most successful coach in ISL history with three titles across two clubs, leads the UP outfit.

In the meantime, they’ve already had a taste of ISL opposition in the recently concluded Super Cup, facing NorthEast United, FC Goa, and Jamshedpur FC. Results didn’t go their way, but the exposure could prove invaluable as they begin their maiden campaign.

And their biggest edge, apart from sides like Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, is that Inter Kashi have filled all six foreign slots while also carrying strong I-League experience in the squad. This is a team built to compete, not merely to participate.

Key Players

Inter Kashi will lean heavily on experience, and few bring more of it than Jayesh Rane, whose ISL journey has taken him through Mumbai City, Bengaluru FC, and Jamshedpur FC. Alongside him, Prabir Das arrives from Kerala Blasters, adding steel and know-how at the back. Both stand out as the key names to watch in Kashi’s debut season.

Inter Kashi Probable XI -  Lluis Tarres (GK); Prabir Das, David Humanes, Narender Gahlot, Nishu Kumar Sergio Llamas, Jayesh Rane, Seiminlen Doungel, Haobam Tomba Singh, Rohit Dan, Nauris Petkevicius.

The last meeting between these sides ended in a commanding 3–0 win for FC Goa. Much has changed since then, especially in Goa’s attack, which now carries a few question marks. Still, with a solid Indian core and the comfort of playing at Fatorda, the Gaurs appear better equipped than the debutants. Backing a home win feels like a sensible call.
