In Round 2 of the Arab Cup 2025, Oman and Morocco arrive with completely different vibes from their opening games, setting up an intriguing clash at Education City Stadium. Oman, stung by defeat in their opener, will be desperate to turn things around.

While Morocco — fresh off a convincing first-match win — will aim to keep the momentum rolling as they gear up for a crucial group finale against Saudi Arabia. With kickoff at 8 PM IST on Friday, expect a contest where both teams won't give an inch.

Current Standings: With three points on the board, Morocco sit at the top of table, while Oman — helped by a superior goal difference — hold third place despite their opening-match setback.

Head-to-head Record: These sides have met just once before, and that lone encounter offered nothing to separate them, finishing in a goalless draw.

Oman Preview

Oman’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages for a second straight Arab Cup took an early blow after a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia. As expected, the Reds had just 36% possession and managed only six shots, three of them on target, though they did keep the Falcons quiet for a 0-0 first half.

The game slipped away after the break as Saudi struck twice, with Ghanem Al-Mukhaini’s late header merely offering  some relief. There were positives, but once again their lack of depth and inability to finish chances stood out.

Once again, the responsibility of sparking something special for Oman falls on captain Ali Busiadi. He wasn’t at his creative best against Saudi, but still carved out one key chance that went begging. His experience and calm presence have carried Oman before, and the Reds will be counting on their skipper to deliver when it matters.

Oman Probable XI: Al Mukhaini (GK); Ali Busaidi, Al-Khamisi, Rushaidi, Al-Habashi, Malki, Al Yahmadi, Al Saadi, Al Mashaiki, Al Rawahi, Al Subhi.

Morocco Preview

In sharp contrast to Oman, Morocco stamped their authority from the first whistle, cruising past Comoros 3-1 — with the only goal conceded coming from an unfortunate own goal. The Atlas Lions dictated the tempo throughout and effectively ended the contest by halftime, thanks to goals from Karim El Berkaoui, Tarik Tissoudali and Soufiane Bouftini.

And like all good sides, they shifted gears after the break, easing off possession (dropping from 55% to 43%) yet still producing more shots on target — eight compared to five in the first half. It was a reminder of just how tactically adaptable and dangerous Tarik Sektioui’s men can be.

Oussama Tannane, who topped Morocco’s scoring charts at the CAF African Nations Championship with six goals, shone again in the opener — even without finding the net. He pulled the strings brilliantly, supplying two assists and creating three key passes, making him the standout threat to watch from this Morocco side.

Morocco Probable XI: Chihab (GK), Boulacscout, Soufiane Bouftini, Bach, Hamza El Moussaoui,  Achraf El Mahdioui, Mohamed Rabie Hrimat, Zouhzouh, El Berkaoui, Oussama Tannane, Tarik Tissoudali.

The Atlas Lions enter this clash on an eight-match winning streak and a 12-game unbeaten run across all competitions, friendlies included. With that level of confidence — and considering Oman’s recent struggles, even against 200th-ranked Somalia — the favourites are clear.
