After two consecutive home games, the Super Cup champions Goa travel to face Punjab FC on Monday at 7:30 PM. Both sides come into the match after similar results in the previous round, but Punjab will be the more eager team as they chase their first home win of the season. That task, however, won’t be easy against a Goa side that has already tasted success on the road this campaign.

Current Standings: With eight points from four games, Goa sit third in the table, while Punjab are eighth with four points from three games.

Head-to-head Record: The Gaurs hold a 3-0 lead in a rivalry that is just four matches old in the ISL, with the remaining match ending in a draw.

Punjab FC Preview

After a narrow defeat to Punjab earlier in the season, the Shers have gradually made their presence felt in this year’s ISL. Facing tough opponents like Jamshedpur, Bengaluru, and NorthEast in their opening three games, they have done well to collect four points.

Their latest came against the Highlanders, where they responded quickly after falling behind, with Nsungusi Jr. Effiong equalising just three minutes later. The Nigerian striker has now scored in back-to-back matches, and Punjab will be hoping he continues that form.

Not everything went smoothly for Punjab against the Highlanders, as midfielder Nikhil Prabhu was forced off with an injury before halftime. However, it proved a blessing in disguise, with Muhammad Suhail stepping in and setting up Effiong’s goal. After that impactful contribution, Suhail is likely to keep his place in the lineup.

Punjab FC Probable XI - Arshdeep Singh (GK); Muhammad Uvais, Pablo Santos, Varghese, Khaiminthang Lhungdim, Shabong, Muhammad Suhail, Dani Ramirez, Manlenthang Kipgen, Samir Zeljkovic, Nsungusi Effiong.

FC Goa Preview

Goa’s trip to Kolkata against East Bengal proved to be a stern defensive test as the Gaurs held on for a 0–0 draw. They faced 20 shots in the match, though only two were on target—the same number they managed themselves.

That said, Manolo Márquez would likely be satisfied with a point from a difficult away fixture, but the lack of goals remains a concern, with Goa scoring more than once in only one of their four matches so far.

Having named an unchanged XI last time out, Márquez is expected to stick with the same lineup again.

FC Goa Probable XI - Hrithik Tiwari (GK);  Boris Singh, Sandesh Jhingan, Pol Moreno, Aakash Sangwan, Sahil Tavora, Ayush Chhetri, Udanta Singh, Dejan Drazic, Brison Fernandes, Ishan Pandita.

Goa may have struggled for goals this season, but their defence has been impressive, keeping three clean sheets in four matches. That solidity could once again prove crucial in an away fixture.

Moreover, the Gaurs rarely lose in the Super League, remaining unbeaten in 22 of their last 25 games, and they are yet to be beaten by Punjab in the competition.

Considering these factors, Goa look good for either a narrow win or at least a draw.
