In a rematch of their famous 1998 World Cup opener, Scotland and Brazil meet once again in Group C, with the clash at Miami Stadium taking place alongside the other game in the group. 

The Scots will be eager to avoid a repeat of the result from France '98 and know that even a point could significantly boost their hopes of reaching the Round of 32.

Scotland knew their Matchday 2 meeting with Morocco would be a stern test, and their hopes of staying in the game suffered an immediate blow when they conceded in just the second minute. 

From that point on, Steve Clarke's men seemed more focused on limiting the damage than chasing the result—a pragmatic approach given their opening-day victory and the possibility of advancing to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.

Steve Clarke made several changes to the side that beat Haiti, bringing in Nathan Patterson, Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie. As against Haiti, the Tartan Army were content to sit deep and concede possession, finishing with just 41 percent of the ball. 

Although Morocco managed 12 shots, only two were on target, highlighting Scotland's defensive discipline. Going forward, however, the Scots offered little threat, failing to register a shot on target from six attempts. With only two efforts on target across their first two matches, a similar low-block approach can be expected against Brazil.

Key Players 

Scott McTominay came into the tournament as one of Scotland’s key men, and this could be the game where he finally makes his presence felt. Another player to watch is Ben Doak, whose pace and dribbling could trouble Brazil in wide areas, especially if he can exploit what looks like their most vulnerable line.

Scotland have received a timely boost with Kieran Tierney returning to training after being forced off with cramps in the previous match. However, there are still fitness concerns surrounding Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey and Scott McKenna, with the latter yet to make an appearance at the tournament.

Brazil entered their clash with Haiti as overwhelming favourites and lived up to expectations in emphatic fashion. 

The 78-place gap in the FIFA rankings—the largest between any two teams in the group stage so far—was reflected in a dominant first-half display, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Vinícius Júnior contributing a goal and an assist as the Seleção effectively wrapped up the game before the break. 

Brazil faced no shots in the opening 45 minutes, posting an xGA of 0.0 while converting five of their six efforts on target. Although Haiti proved more competitive after halftime, they rarely troubled Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Interestingly, Brazil fielded their oldest starting lineup since the 1962 World Cup final, but finished the match with teenagers Rayan and Endrick on the pitch as Ancelotti looked to give the next generation valuable minutes. 

The Italian had already made two changes from the side that drew with Morocco, bringing in Matheus Cunha and Danilo, in place of Igor Thiago and another alteration now seems inevitable with Raphinha sidelined through injury ahead of the meeting with Scotland.

The victory was a timely one for the Seleção, lifting them to the top of Group C. Another win in the upcoming clash would not only secure their place in the Round of 32, but also all but guarantee them top spot in the group.

Scotland are likely to sit deep against Brazil, so unlocking that defence will require a player of real quality — and Vinícius Júnior fits that bill perfectly. After a strong start with two goals and an assist, he has been one of Brazil’s standout performers and will once again be crucial. With Raphinha absent, Rayan is another player who could be asked to step up and justify the faith shown in him.

Having picked up an injury against Haiti, Raphinha has been ruled out of the upcoming fixture, although he has not been ruled out of the tournament entirely. There was better news from the Brazil camp, however, with star man Neymar set to return after missing the opening two matches. His availability could provide a timely boost for the Seleção.

Brazil enter this contest as clear favourites. Even without the injured Raphinha, the Seleção possess more than enough firepower to trouble Scotland's defence, and a deep-lying Scottish approach would only play into their hands. Carlo Ancelotti's side also arrive unbeaten since last October, underlining the momentum they carry into this encounter.

However, Scotland cannot be written off entirely, particularly if they are willing to be more adventurous and take the game to Brazil. However, that seems unlikely given their approach so far, which is why we are backing the Seleção to emerge victorious.
