The Red Pythons, who currently compete in the I-League 3, endured a disappointing outing in the Durand Cup last year, failing to win a single match despite sharing a group with familiar opponents NEROCA FC and Indian Navy—two teams they will face again this season.

Their 2025-26 I-League 3  campaign showed promise, with TRAU topping their group before finishing fifth in the championship playoffs.

The lone bright spot was Phijam Sanathoi Meitei, who scored six of the team's 11 goals. However, his departure ahead of the tournament represents a major setback.

​Regarding their Durand Cup history, NEROCA FC have featured four times in the competition. Their crowning achievement remains a runners-up finish in the 2016 edition, though they failed to progress beyond the group stage in their subsequent appearances.

​To address these struggles, NEROCA FC have been active in the transfer market.
