They booked their playoff spot after finishing second to Spain, with their only blemish being a heavy 6-0 defeat—though they responded with a 2-2 draw in the return leg. 

Apart from those games, Turkey were dominant, winning the rest convincingly. Their strong home form, where they remained unbeaten with an aggregate score of 14-4, could prove crucial in the upcoming tie.

Arda Güler, the Turkish wonderkid now at Real Madrid, will be one of the main attractions to watch.

However, their World Cup qualifying run told a different story—finishing third behind Austria and Bosnia, with inconsistency proving costly. 

While they managed a notable win over Austria, slip-ups like a draw against Cyprus held them back. They also head into the playoffs on the back of a 3-1 home defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

To make matters tougher, Romania will be without first-choice goalkeeper Andrei Radu, who misses out due to injury—a significant blow ahead of a crucial fixture.

Much of Romania’s creativity will revolve around Ianis Hagi, who matched Dennis Man’s goal tally in the group stages. 

Meanwhile, the spotlight will also be on Man, with hopes that the PSV Eindhoven winger can carry his club form onto the international stage.

That said, their defence remains a concern, having conceded in each of their last five games—something Romania’s counter-attacking style could exploit. Still, considering the venue and overall form, Turkey look well placed to edge past Romania.
