In a Group F AFC Asian Cup qualifier, Vietnam  host Malaysia in what is effectively a dead rubber, with both teams’ fates already sealed. Vietnam have secured qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, while Malaysia are out of contention. Even so, expect a competitive encounter when they meet on March 31 at 5:30 PM IST.

Current Standings: Vietnam top group F with 15 points, while Malaysia are second with nine points.

Head-to-head Record: Vietnam has been the dominant side in this fixture, winning 14 of the 18 games while losing only twice.

Vietnam Preview

As the highest-ranked side in Group F, Vietnam lived up to expectations by sealing top spot with a game to spare, thanks to a 2-0 win over Laos back in November.

The qualification also marks their third consecutive Asian Cup appearance and fourth overall.

In the qualifiers, Vietnam have been dominant—winning all their matches, conceding just once, and scoring 14 goals, with Nguyen Van Vi leading the scoring charts with three goals.

Heading into their final game, they’ll be aiming to maintain that perfect run, especially after a confident 3-0 win over Bangladesh in a recent friendly.

Vietnam Probable Starting Lineup - Dang Van Lam(GK) ; Doan Van Hau, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Tran Dinh Trong, Do Duy Manh, Vu Van Thanh,Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Do Hoang Hen, Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Xuan Son.

Malaysia Preview

Malaysia’s campaign took a major hit early on after the AFC penalised them for fielding ineligible naturalised players, forcing forfeits against Vietnam and Nepal and effectively ending their qualification hopes.

As a result, they sit on nine points, all coming from three wins in their last three matches.

On the positive side, they’ve shown strong form recently—conceding just once while scoring nine goals in that run.

Faisal Halim has been key to their attack, emerging as their top scorer with three goals.

Malaysia Probable Starting Lineup - Syihan Hazmi (GK); Matthew Davies, Dominic Tan, Dion Cools, La'Vere Corbin-Ong, Stuart Wilkin, Nooa Laine, Endrick Dos Santos, Arif Aiman, Luqman Hakim, Paulo Josue.

It’s difficult to predict what Malaysia will bring into this fixture, given the ups and downs of their campaign. However, Vietnam’s consistency throughout the qualifiers, combined with their home advantage, makes them clear favourites. Add to that their status as the highest-ranked side in the group, and they look well placed to come out on top.

Vietnam to win (2-0)
